I am the woman!

So here we have our dishwasher. It broke. Not too bad, but according to all the home improvement places I went yesterday there was nothing they could do for us, but order us a part that would cost us....$150!!!! It's called a unicouple and you can see it below.

This is the rubber washer and plastic ring that fell out of the piece above.
See 2 small pieces and no one could find me something to fix it. So what does a girl do....
She goes into the store and asks where to find the rubber washers. I decide if no one will help I will just figure it out. So I buy 2 different types of rubber washers. And this is what worked.

We simply put the washer over the faucet and then put the unicouple on and whala! it works! I'm so excited b/c instead of $150 it only cost us $1.55 for 12 of them! So call me handy woman and I can fix your washer too...for a small price!!!

I'm having the same issue, can you show me where the white ring goes? OUr broke and I'm not sure where it fits. A picture of the inside of the faucet adapter would be awesome!

This is a funny coincidence. On the same day you receive a comment from "Matt" - you're also receiving one from me. Mine broke earlier this week and after finding your blog, my bf and I went to Lowe's and bought every rubber ring I could find. Just now, we put the #14 at the bottom of the unicouple and it seems to work! I was just curious if you used a #14 too? Matt - you should try this and throw out the white ring and its rubber "holding" ring.

Matt, here is the link to the same o-ring I bought. Also,I did not put it in the unicouple, I actually place it on the adapter on the faucet and then slide the unicouple over it. I found that it works better for me. You should try placing it inside of the unicouple and then on the faucet and slide the unicouple over it and see which works best for you. Matt, if you have more problems you can email me at sarabethstout@windstream.net

Anonymous: so glad I could help. That makes me so happy. Yes, it was a #14 o-ring from Lowes.

It's funny - across the whole Internet, your post was the most helpful to me! I had a problem where the stiff plastic white ring and a hollow black gasket fell out of the unicouple, and I didn't know how they worked in order to reinsert them. Luckily, I think it's fixed: I put the black gasket into the unicouple and seated it below the locking pieces (I have a newer Whirlpool unit), and then you insert the white ring above it which appears to hold it in place (it's a bit of a pain to seat)when you connect the unicouple to the faucet coupler. Anyway, your post helped me understand what the purpose of it was, though, and for that I thank you! FYI, the pics appear to be unavailable at this point... :(

Im having this very same problem! My husband and I have a GE dishwasher and the white ring and the rubber ring fell out, then the white ring BROKE! My husband went to Lowes and they gave him the wrong thing and told him not go away. Your blog is very helpful, I think I'll have a go and get some washers. A womans work is never done!
